Colosseum Walls

Only crumbling ruins remain of the spectator stands of the colosseum. The seating sections were split up into four tiers, with the spectators seated according to their social rank.
The lowest tier, nearest the floor of the arena, was reserved for the imperial box, the senators and the vestals.
The second tier of seats were for the upper class.
The third sector was for the middle class.
While the lower class were consigned to the highest sector around the top.

In its heyday, intricate carvings adorned the exterior of the structure. Where empty archways now line the outer wall, at one time statues occupied each space.
The colosseum was used for shows up until 608 A.D. It was used as a fortress during the middle ages.
